SML is seeking a co-tenant (or two)

Discovery Zone at Spatial Media Lab

TL;DR: We need one person (or more) to share the ~50m2 studio in Weißensee by August 30th, with the latest move-in September 1st. €366.28 netto / €452.20 brutto per month. 13 Genelec 4030As + sub already installed and waiting to be used.

Background

We recently had a cut to our funding, so we’re now opening up a spot or two (or more?) in our Weißensee immersive audio studio. We’d much rather fill it with someone from our own community than a stranger off some random Berlin classifieds group. So, if you’ve caught one of our meetups, watched Carolina Eyck play theremin in the Planetarium, or helped with one of our events, like RECLAIM WONDER or SPHEREA #1, you’re the ideal candidate.

The space

~50m2 inside Motorwerk, right below Der Grimm. You know the building, the courtyard, the coffee. It’s already kitted out for serious spatial work:

  • 13× Genelec 4030A monitors + 1 sub in a halfdome/Dolby Atmos configuration
  • Full infrastructure ready to plug into: routing, power, cabling, switch, digiface Dante, truss ring
  • 1gb down/up internet
  • Bass traps installed, and all the material for the isolation panels sitting there waiting on a weekend and an extra pair of hands to finish the job

Who we’re looking for

Someone working in, or seriously curious about, spatial audio, immersive media, or something adjacent.
Someone who’ll actually use the space, add to the vibe, and get why we do this stuff in the open rather than behind closed doors.
Someone who wants to sign onto the lease for at least 6 months to one year with us.

With one additional renter:

  • €366.28 netto

With two additional renters:

  • €339.15 brutto
  • €403.59 netto

Deadline: we need a commitment by Monday, August 31st. Otherwise we’re looking at submitting a Kündigung to Motorwerk and moving out…
